From performing the New York City debut of a recently discovered work
of Debussy to performing the complete Mozart piano sonatas during
the composer’s 250th anniversary year, pianist Gary Stegall
is widely regarded as an artist of great emotional warmth tempered
by a probing intellect. Highly renowned as both solo and chamber pianist
with performances throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia
and Africa, Dr. Stegall will make his first solo tour of Latin America
in 2008.
He
has previously appeared as guest artist with the dePasquale String
Quartet of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Formerly resident pianist
for the South Carolina Chamber Orchestra Soloists, he is presently
resident pianist for the Beau Geste Trio (flute, cello, piano) with
appearances at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, USA.
During
his studies in Brussels as a Rotary International Scholar,
Dr. Stegall discovered the music of Joseph Jongen and has since
introduced this Belgian Impressionist to many audiences
by way of his performances and compact disc recording (Klavier/Kalmus
KCD #11032 - Solo Piano Music of Joseph Jongen). This recording,
which has received acclaim for the beauty of both the music and
the performances, includes the world premiere recording of Jongen’s
Suite en forme de sonate.
Dr.
Stegall is presently associate professor of piano at Coastal Carolina
University of Conway, South Carolina.
